Forum regularly organizes on-line and live auctions of
aerospace memorabilia and "experiences". Members are encouraged
to donate unique items for auction and should contact us regarding
any proposals or ideas they may have.
The following
are some of the items generously donated over the past two years:
AIRBUS
A3XX Jumbo (1/100 scale) - May 2000 - US$1,400
The Airbus A3XX is scheduled to be the world's largest passenger
jet with space for 550 to 900 seats in a full double-decker configuration.
This US$10 billion+ project will be the largest industrial project
ever undertaken in Europe. Popular newspaper fascination has focused
on the possibility of on-board gymnasiums, bars and fast food outlets.
The business press continues to focus on the market demand for the
A3XX versus a stretched 747. This top quality 70cm wing span model
in traditional Airbus Industrie's rainbow colours would be a talking
point in any boardroom or home!
Swissair
747-300 Jumbo Model - June 2000 - US$2,200
Swissair have kindly shipped to Hong Kong for auction one of the
largest display aircraft models in the world. This 747-300 combi
model in 1980's Swissair colours would cost over US$10,000 at today's
model making prices. It is 2.8 metres long and with a 2.6 metre
wingspan, it also features a transparent upper fuselage section.
This is surely for the biggest of boys who crave the largest of
toys (1: 25 scale).
Rolls-Royce
Engine Art - July 2000 - US$800
A compressor blade from a Rolls-Royce RB211 engine has been modelled
into the shape of a Chinese junk. This work has been undertaken
by highly skilled craftsmen from the aircraft industry, and it is
a unique and highly decorative piece. It will be of special interest
to those who appreciate a combination of handcrafted art and aircraft
memorabilia. The blade itself is made of titanium, which is known
for its strength and durability as well as its ability to retain
a smooth and highly polished surface finish. During its service
life as a compressor blade, it was fitted to the engine of 747 and
completed countless journeys across the continents of the world.
It is estimated that this piece of titanium has been around the
world 800 times and now it's a piece of art. A piece of art and
a special object with a most interesting background.
Boeing
B-52 Stratofortress, circa 1954 - December 2000 - US$475
The B-52 was the United States' first long-range, swept-wing bomber.
By 1998, it was in it's fourth decade of operational service. Originally
designed as an intercontinental high-altitude nuclear bomber, the
B-52 was adapted to meet changing defence needs. B-52s are capable
of flying low-level flights, extended flights and launching cruise
missiles hundreds of miles from targets. A total of 744 B-52s were
built in all versions between 1952 and 1962. It is kindly donated
by BOEING, with thanks to Mr. Randy "Baesler and Tom McLean.
This particular eye-catching all-steel 1: 200 Scale model set has
been dubbed the "Dr. Strange Love" desk set.
CONCORDE
in PAN AM Colours - November 2000 - US$950
The most easily recognizable commercial aircraft in airline service
today. Only 16 units went into service with BA and Air France after
the aircraft first flew in 1969. This model set is unique, being
in the colours of the now defunct Pan American Airlines. Pan Am
were the first airline to option/order this unique twice-the-speed-of-sound
100 seater. The model was kindly donated by the Managing Director
of Spacemodels, Mr. Brian Pugsley, the leading UK based aerospace
model maker. An autographed 8x10 inch framed photograph of Brian
Trubshaw, the first test pilot of Concorde, has also been donated
to complete this supersonic set.
